The African Connections Program (ACP) scholarship for a 2-week study abroad in Kenya, May 2025. Now in its third year, ACP scholarships provide full funding for undergrads for a two-week study abroad to Nairobi, Kenya. Students will be hosted at the United States International University in Nairobi, visiting historical and urban social justice sites, with field trips to a national park and the coastal town of Mombasa. The Eric Whitaker Scholarship in African Studies. Established through the generosity of former US Ambassador and UIUC alumnus Eric Whitaker, this scholarship provides up to $2500 in one-time tuition assistance to UIUC undergraduates who have enrolled in African Studies courses in any discipline and are interested in public service careers. Graduate Students
Bokamba Graduate Scholarship in African Linguistics. Established through the generosity of UIUC Professor Emeritus Eyamba Bokamba, this scholarship provides up to $5,000 of tuition assistance to a current UIUC graduate student in African linguistics or language study who has demonstrated excellence. UIUC Faculty
Research and Study-Abroad Planning Grants. With support from the US Department of Education’s Title VI award, these grants provide up to $3,500 to support research travel to countries on the African continent. Faculty who need support to develop future study-abroad programs in African countries can also apply. Travel should occur before August 2025. Course Development Grants. Faculty can apply for up to $2000 for costs related to developing new courses at UIUC in any discipline related to African peoples, cultures, and environments.
